Stephen served on the Department of Work and Pensions Select Committee, holding the Government to account on benefit reforms. He arranged for over 100 local residents to receive personal representation from his office at Tribunal Appeals - almost unique amongst 650 MPs.


Stephen was the first MP to run the 100 apprentices in 100 days campaign. This led to over 3,500 new apprentices in Eastbourne. His initative was copied by MPs across the country.

Stephen secured £10.2M for the new buildings to be built at Eastbourne Academy when funding was withdrawn


Stephen fought to stop legislation that was going to threaten our English Language Schools - a sector which brings over £20M to the town each year


Stephen helped secure the £85M investment in the Eastbourne Arndale Centre


Stephen only agreed to support the new Morrisons being opened if they guaranteed jobs for local long-term unemployed people


Stephen voted against the rise in tuition fees, putting his own promise to Eastbourne above that of the Party line


Stephen worked with the family of Lilian Groves - a girl tragically killed by a driver under the influence of drugs. Thanks to the new legislation - Lilans Law - drivers can be drug tested by the Police at the roadside, and over 8,000 drivers have since been charged


Stephen brought back Eastbourne Carnival after an absence of 15 years, raising funds for hundreds of good causes. He also secured the Olympic Torch during the relay after the town had been ignored


Stephen also led the response of the town after the devastating Pier Fire - bringing the communtiy together to promote Eastbourne with one unified - positive - voice
