Get the Eastbourne Buzz

Upon being elected as MP for Eastbourne and Willingdon, I established the MPs Commission with the emphasis on transforming our town.

Members on this Commission freely give their expertise to help 'Get the Eastbourne Buzz' and think of new ways to invest, regenerate and promote Eastbourne and Willingdon.

Speaking for myself, there is not a day that goes by when I'm not thinking of ways to improve the economy and lives of people in our town; be it meeting, encouraging and supporting local businesses, working with our fantastic voluntary sector - local churches, campaign and sport groups - bolstering the vital contribution they all make to Eastbourne.

Already the Commission has:

  • Hosted a public meeting regarding parking charges within Eastbourne.
  • Announced plans for the return of the Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival
  • Successfully worked with the Borough Council and the private sector to invest in Christmas lights.
  • Held a Procurement Conference where all major public sector bodies met with representatives of the private sector to discuss ways local companies can successfully bid for contracts.
  • Hosted a World Cup Tournament in aid of St Andrew's Church.
  • Raised over £1,500 in three weeks for the Salvation Army's Christmas appeal.
  • Hosted a meeting with the Lawn Tennis Association in Westminister to brainstorm how we can both grow the reputation of the Devonshire Park Tournament, as well as increase business and tourism across Eastbourne on the back of the event.

We are also arranging an Apprentices Conference to expand the number of available apprenticeships in Eastbourne and Willingdon offering employment opportunities to many of our young people.

All this work is ably assisted by Barnaby Bee - our mascot who is the public face of the Commission and promotes local events around the town.

If you are a resident of the Eastbourne constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
