Community Surgeries

I regularly meet with constituents at my office at 100 Seaside Road.

In addition I hold regular community surgeries where I want to be at the heart of Eastbourne and Willingdon, reaching out to everyone across the constituency and not just based in my office!

I hold these community surgeries at a variety of venues across Eastbourne, talking to residents about any issues which concern them.

Constituents have requested that I operate a scheme where appointments are booked in advance to ensure that they can see me. I also try to operate a drop-in session during these times where you will be able to see a member of my team who will be able to assist you and if necessary book you in for a later slot.

If you would like to make an appointment it is helpful to you send details of your problem or query in writing in advance. This means that I can make any enquiries which may need to be done in advance of meeting you to ensure that I can provide the best possible advice.

To make an appointment please contact me using the details below:

Examples of Casework:

Casework is incredibly important to me, and I want you to feel confident to contact my office on any issue. MPs deal with a broad range of subjects. Sometimes it may be difficult to decide when you should consult your MP? To try and help guide you, I have listed below a few examples of the things I can do to assist:

  • Listen to your views on any local or national issue: Your opinions are very important to me, they can help shape Goverment policy and raise my own awareness of issues that may affect you, your business or your family.
  • Make sure that the voice of Eastbourne and Willingdon is heard, by representing your interests and needs in the House of Commons and raising, if necessary, specific problems with the approriate Government minister.
  • Take up an issue on your behalf and attempt to resolve any problems, such as pensions, policing issues, housing, the local economy, benefits, tax and many more.
  • If you have a complaint about the maladministration of a government agency (a department, an executive agency or a quago) and I am unable to resolve it myself, I can contact the Parliamentary Ombudsmen on your behalf.
  • I can also contact the Local Government Ombudsman if you have a complaint about the maladministration of a local council.
  • I often collaborate with local councillors to achieve faster and better results in resolving problems.

Confidentiality of Personal Information:

The Data Protection Act 1998 requires that all Members of Parliament operate within the provisions of the Act and the following paragraphs give details on how I intend to meet those requirements.

I will treat as confidential any information that you pass onto me. I will normally allow my staff and volunteer workers to see this information so that they can find help and advice for you. In some case I may need to give some or all of this information to agencies such as the DWP, the CSA, East Sussex County Council, or the House of Commons Library in order to obtain further information about your case.

If you give me personal information about someone else I may need to check the facts with that person. Or if you give me information, or ask me to take action on behalf of, a friend or relative, I may need to ask that person to confirm that they are happy for me to act on their behalf.

Any personal information that you pass onto me will normally be recorded either on paper and a computer for future reference.

If you are a resident of the Eastbourne constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
