Lloyd speaks out against rising cost of fuel

November 18, 2011 10:14 AM

Stephen Lloyd questions the Prime Minister in the House of CommonsOn Tuesday this week Stephen Lloyd MP attended the debate on fuel prices in Parliament and spoke out against the rising cost of petrol and diesel in the UK, which is severely affecting families and pensioners as well as having a negative impact on small and medium sized businesses.

The Motion, which was discussed by the House on Tuesday, notes 'the damage that high fuel prices are having on many areas of the economy and requests that the government consider the effect that increased taxes on fuel will have on the economy. It also looks to ensure that any drop in the price of oil is passed on to the consumer and urges the government to consider a price stabilisation mechanism to work alongside the fair fuel stabiliser to address fluctuations in the pump price'.

Stephen said in the Chamber, "High fuel prices are clearly having a detrimental effect on small and medium sized businesses in the UK who have paid over £260 million more for fuel than they did 12 months ago and this is stifling our economy. It is essential that we look at ways of assisting both businesses and families to deal with the high costs of fuel in order to promote growth and I hope that the government will take our views on board."
