On Friday 21st January MP Stephen Lloyd joined staff, students and govenors to celebrate the news that Eastbourne Academy has been awarded ten million pounds to rebuild or refurbish the buildings at the Academy.
Principal Keith Palinthorpe commented 'we would like to thank Stephen for fighting hard in Parliament to secure these funds during uncertain economic times.'
Stephen said "It was absolutely fantastic news that the new Academy in Hampden Park has got over £10.2million from the Government to transform the school. I've been working for months now, lobbying the Secretary of State Michael Gove - I must have spoken to him individually around 20 times and I also asked him directly in the Chamber about stumping up the cash- so I was thrilled to bits when the good news came through. The children and parents of Hampden Park deserve a brilliant school, and they're now going to get it because of this extra money as well as having a really committed and talented headteacher in Keith Pailethorpe, who also leads a passionate group of teachers. They, like me, are determined to provide high quality education in Hampden Park. I have already invited Michael Gove to visit the Academy, and it will be great to welcome him to Eastbourne."
