Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd met this week with motoring journalist and TV presenter Quentin Wilson to discuss the recent huge rises in fuel prices. Mr Wilson presented Stephen with letters written by the supporters of the Fair Fuel Campaign which asked for his support on scrapping April's fuel duty rise and introducing a mechanism to stabilise prices.
Stephen said: "The rises in fuel prices over the past few years have been challenging for individuals and businesses in Eastbourne. I know some people who are finding it difficult to use their car, and this means that they struggle to get to work, pick their kids up from school and do the weekly shop. Small businesses who rely on transport to deliver their goods are also suffering from the higher fuel costs. Consequently, I am calling on the Government to take the financial pressure off road users by enacting these simple ideas."
Quentin Wilson added: "I'm very grateful to Stephen Lloyd for coming along to receive this petition from me and other motorists and road hauliers concerned about the astronomical price of fuel. As Stephen knows, it is not just private motorists who are taking a hit but thousands of small businesses, including many in Eastbourne. I know that he will be lobbying the Government hard to try to ease the burden on families and businesses, through cancelling the fuel duty rise in April or introducing a price stabilising mechanism, and I fully support him in his efforts. This is a really really important social issue."
Stephen said: "It was good to meet Quentin Wilson; I assured him that I would do everything in my power to pressure the Government into acting. I have already signed two Parliamentary Motions on the issue and I will continue to fight for people and businesses in our town."
