| 'Back of the net! While England was turning in a lacklustre performance against Germany, Eastbourne youngsters gave a masterly performance in a penalty shoot-out on Sunday.
It was the first event organised by the MP's Commission and was seen as a resounding success by parents, traders and -most importantly- the hot-shot participants. The local businesses around the TJ Hughes section of Terminus Road all pitched in and lent a hand to ensure the pedestrianised area was buzzing with balloons and bunting. Boys and girls from across Eastbourne took part and were awarded with medals donated by the Eastbourne Independent Traders' Association. The overall winner, Jordan Ward, aged eight, was awarded with a feast of ice cream for himself and his family, courtesy of the Fusciardi Ice Cream Parlour. MP Stephen Lloyd said 'I was absolutely thrilled at the turnout and sheer enthusiasm for our inaugural event. The whole point of the Eastbourne Buzz initiative is to bring the town together so we can successfully navigate our way through the difficult economic times ahead. We're fortunate to live in a great town. Our aim is to make it even better, better for business, better for local residents, better for us all. The way everyone pulled together last Sunday to raise money for St. Andrew's Church demonstrates the tremendous sense of community we have in our town. |
